At Triumph healthcare, we have doctors and therapists who can effectively carry out interpersonal therapy by working closely with the client.
Interpersonal therapy offers a very effective way of treating depression-related conditions. IPT’s basic assumption is that personal relationships lie at the center of all psychological problems. Relationships and life events deeply influence a person’s state of mind and vice versa. Hence, the main goal of interpersonal therapy is to improve the quality of the client’s social functioning. It identifies interpersonal deficits and then helps clients change relationship patterns. Many studies confirm that interpersonal therapy is as effective as antidepressant medication and can treat several psychiatric disorders such as substance use disorder, Anorexia nervosa, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and anxiety.
We can use the therapy with medication. It usually begins with a detailed interview, after which the therapist works closely with clients to identify goals and create a treatment outline. The purpose is to identify the events that led to depression. The therapy usually lasts for 12-16 weeks. It is used as maintenance therapy as well.
